John Ferguson Jr. signed a multi-year contract on Wednesday to serve as the assistant general manager of the Arizona Coyotes.
Financial terms were not disclosed for Ferguson, who also will be the general manager of the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Tucson.
"We are very pleased to name John as our new assistant general manager," Coyotes general manager Bill Armstrong said. "John is extremely knowledgeable about the game and with 20-plus years in the NHL, brings a tremendous amount of experience to our hockey operations department. We are thrilled to have him join our team and I am looking forward to working with him."
Ferguson, 54, previously served as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs from 2003-08. He spent the past seven seasons as executive director of player personnel with the Boston Bruins, including a five-year stint as general manager of the team's AHL affiliate in Providence.
"I'm very excited to join the Coyotes organization," Ferguson said. "I'm grateful to Bill, (CEO) Xavier Gutierrez and (owner Alex) Meruelo for providing me with this opportunity. I'm excited about the Coyotes vision and plan for the future and look forward to helping Bill build a long-term winning team in the Valley."
Ferguson served as both an amateur and professional scout for the Ottawa Senators before spending six seasons as the assistant general manager and director of hockey operations with the St. Louis Blues (1997-2003). He also spent six seasons as the director of pro scouting for the San Jose Sharks (2008-14).
