Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield took to social media on Wednesday to announce that he had successful surgery to repair the torn labrum in his left non-throwing shoulder.
With his left arm in a sling, Mayfield addressed his followers during a 70-second video on Twitter.
"We'll check that box off to get this fixed, and now it's onto the road to recovery," Mayfield said in the video. "It's not going to be an easy one, but it's going to be one that I remember, and it's going to be a special one. I'll keep you guys updated. Thank you so much.
"This is not the end of my story. It's going to be one of those things where I look back and remember one of those challenges and adversity that I'll try to take advantage of, and it'll make me a better person."
The surgery was performed by Dr. Orr Limpisvasti of The Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. The expectation is Mayfield will make a full recovery in four-to-six months, thus putting him in line for the start of training camp.
Mayfield, 26, threw for 3,010 yards with 17 touchdowns and 13 interceptions this season.
While Cleveland did pick up the fifth-year option on Mayfield, there are no trade restrictions on the option, which pays him $18.66 million in 2022. More than half of the NFL's 32 teams could be in the market for a starting quarterback in the offseason.
In four seasons as the starter, the 2018 No. 1 overall draft pick has a 29-30 record.
