Perhaps the NFL's most unsettled quarterback situation is reportedly taking a potential step toward a resolution with more than a month to go before the start of training camps.
According to an ESPN report late Sunday, Jacoby Brissett will report to the Arizona Cardinals' mandatory minicamp this week, at least putting a pause to a holdout that has seen the quarterback miss all team activities to this point in the offseason.
In search of a new contract, Brissett faces $107,911 in fines if he does not show when minicamp begins Tuesday, ESPN reported, citing the NFL's collective bargaining agreement.
Even if Brissett is at minicamp, two major questions remain:
1) How much on-field work is the 33-year-old going to do, and 2) when will he and the team come to an agreement on a new contract.
Brissett's current contract expires after this season and is set to pay him $4.88 million in 2026, with a chance for that number to grow to as much as $5.39 million. Of that, only $1.5 million is guaranteed.
Journeyman Gardner Minshew, signed by Arizona in the spring, is guaranteed $5.14 million for this season.
According to the ESPN report, a deal is not expected to get done between now and the start of minicamp.
Though not viewed as one of the league's top signal-callers, Brissett had a solid 2025, especially after taking over when starter Kyler Murray was benched. He threw for 3,366 yards with 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in 14 games (12 starts). All three numbers were career-high marks for Brissett.
In 10 seasons with six teams, Brissett has completed 61.9% of his passes for 14.766 yards, 76 touchdowns and 32 interceptions.
The Cardinals have since parted ways with Murray, releasing the top overall pick in the 2019 draft and two-time Pro Bowl selection on March 3. Nine days later, the Minnesota Vikings signed the 28-year-old.
