Adolis Garcia hit a two-run home run, Cristopher Sanchez struck out 10 in seven innings and the visiting Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Toronto Blue Jays 5-2 on Monday night.
Sanchez (8-2) allowed two runs, four hits and one walk in the opener of a three-game series.
Jhoan Duran pitched around a double in the ninth to earn his 16th save of the season in 16 opportunities.
Ernie Clement hit a solo home run for the Blue Jays, who are 2-2 to open a nine-game homestand.
Bryson Stott doubled against Patrick Corbin (2-3) with two out in the second before Garcia smashed a 2-1 slider to left center.
The Phillies increased the lead to 5-0 in the third. Trea Turner and Bryce Harper walked and Brandon Marsh was hit by a pitch. Alec Bohm and J.T. Realmuto followed with RBI singles. Stott walked with the bases loaded to score another run.
Toronto scored in the bottom of the inning. Myles Straw led off with a double, took third on a groundout and dashed home on Yohendrick Pinango's groundout to first.
Corbin allowed five runs, four hits, four walks and hit a batter while striking out three in three innings.
Toronto hitting coach David Popkins was ejected in the fourth inning by home plate umpire Jansen Visconti.
Clement homered to left on an 0-1 sinker that stayed up to lead off the fifth. It marked the first time Sanchez had allowed two runs in a game since April 30. He had a 50 2/3 inning runless streak end on June 3.
Pinango started the sixth with a double to right and continued to third base on Garcia's error. Sanchez struck out the next three batters.
Simeon Woods Richardson, recently of the Minnesota Twins, allowed one hit in four relief innings in his first outing for the Blue Jays.
Brad Keller replaced Sanchez for the bottom of the eighth and pitched around a walk and a single with Kazuma Okamoto making the third out on a flyout to the warning track in left.
