Robert Wright III drew a foul and knocked down both free throws of a one-and-one with 2.2 seconds left to break a tie, and then Norchad Omier hit a free throw in the final second to lift Baylor to a 61-58 victory over TCU on Tuesday night in Fort Worth, Texas.
Omier posted a game-high 19 points with 12 rebounds for his sixth consecutive double-double. VJ Edgecombe finished with 18 points, and Wright rounded out the Bears' double figure scorers with 11 points and seven assists.
The Bears (18-12, 10-9 Big 12) won their fifth straight game at TCU (16-14, 9-10), which defeated Baylor earlier this season in Waco.
The victory helps the Bears solidify themselves as NCAA Tournament worthy while the Frogs are in a situation where they essentially have to win the Big 12 tournament to reach a fourth straight NCAA Tournament.
TCU was led by Noah Reynolds' 16 points. Trazarien White finished with 11 points.
It was a back-and-forth affair all night. Baylor jumped out to an early nine-point lead in the first half, but TCU battled back to tie the game at 35-35 by the break.
In the second half, Baylor appeared en route to victory. The Bears went on a 15-3 run, capped with consecutive 3-pointers by Omier for a 52-42 lead with 10:15 left. Omier hadn't made multiple 3-pointers in a game since he knocked down two against Utah on Jan. 25.
But the Frogs got back in it despite shooting 23.3 percent from the field in the second half. White delivered down the stretch, notably tying the game at 58-58 with a layup with 23 seconds left. But the Bears answered in the final seconds.
Wright drew a foul against TCU's Vasean Allette with 2.2 seconds left. Wright made both of his free throws, and then Omier was fouled with 1.0 second left. He made one of his two attempts.
Both teams will conclude their regular seasons on Saturday. Baylor hosts No. 3 Houston while TCU travels to Colorado.
