The Philadelphia Flyers parted ways with Scott Laughton after 12 seasons on Friday, sending him and two draft picks to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Nikita Grebenkin and a 2027 first-round pick.
Laughton, 30, has spent his entire career with the Flyers, who drafted him in the first round (20th overall) of the 2012 NHL Draft.
The Flyers are retaining 50 percent of Laughton's remaining contract.
The first-round pick the Leafs are sending the Flyers is a top-10 protected pick, according to The Athletic, meaning that if that pick ends up being in the top 10 of the draft, the Leafs will retain it. The Flyers would then receive a different pick; in these situations, that pick is often in the next year's first round.
The Leafs also get a fourth-round pick in 2025 and a sixth-round pick in 2027 in the deal.
Laughton has 27 points (11 goals, 16 assists) and 21 penalty minutes in 60 games this season.
In 661 career games, he's notched 265 points (106 goals, 159 assists) and 386 penalty minutes. He added 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 24 playoff games.
Grebenkin is a 21-year-old prospect out of Russia. He played in seven games in November and December for the Leafs without scoring any points. He has nine goals and 12 assists in 39 games this season for the Toronto Marlies of the AHL.
Earlier in the day, the Flyers traded forward Andrei Kuzmenko and a seventh-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2027 NHL Draft. The Flyers will retain 50 percent of Kuzmenko's remaining salary. He is in the final year of a two-year, $11 million contract ($5.5 million average annual value) and can become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.
