How he fits:Green was an AP Second-Team All-American and Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year after leading the FBS with 17.0 sacks and ranking second with 23 tackles for loss this past season to go along with 84 total tackles and three forced fumbles.
He then went to the Senior Bowl and was one of the standouts there against higher competition.
"Green looked like a top-20 pick here in Mobile," NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah wrote of Green when listing him as one of his Senior Bowl standouts. "His play speed off the edge is real, which helps explain why he led the FBS with 17 sacks in 2024. His bull rush against Oregon OT Josh Conerly Jr. during a one-on-one drill had everyone talking this week, but there was more than just that one rep to be excited about. Green showed he can win in a variety of ways."
Green has a high motor and a nice toolbox of pass rush moves to go along with a violent play style that certainly fits the mentality upfront for the Lions' defense, even though he might not have the length Detroit usually likes on the edge.
Key observations:Green was fifth in the FBS in pressures off the edge (51) and ranked ninth in pressure rate at 16.5 percent, per ESPN, with a 20.2 pass-rush win rate, per Pro Football Focus. He received a 91.4 pass-rush grade from PFF in 2024.
What they had to say about him:"Too many people are hung up on Green's size instead of appreciating his edge speed, play violence and the ways in which he impacts the game. He has serious juice as a pass rusher to bend, capture the corner and finish at the quarterback.
"He might not have 35-inch arms to easily outleverage blocks in the run game, but he plays with the pop to shock and separate, which allows him to impact the ball carrier. Green also led the FBS this season with 17 sacks." Dane Brugler, The Athletic
How he stacks up:Green comes in at No. 12 on Brugler'slistof the Top 100 players in the draft while JeremiahlistsHarmon at No. 21 on his most recent version of his Top 50 players in the class.
"I love his effort to keep working and refuse to stay blocked," Jeremiah wrote. "In the run game, he knocks back tight ends at the point of attack and he can pop/separate to free himself for tackles. He is very disruptive on stunts and games. Overall, Green is a very gifted pass rusher and more than holds his own against the run."
NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks released hislistof the Top 5 players at every position in the class and Green comes in at No. 4 among the group of outside linebackers behind Abdul Carter (Penn State),James Pearce Jr.(Tennessee) and Mykel Williams (Georgia).
NFL.com lead writer Eric Edholm puts Green at No. 13 on hislistof the 100 Top Players in the class.
"Greenhad to answer character questionsdenying past sexual assault accusations while addressing his previously murky departure from the Virginia football team at the Combine. If those issues are fully vetted, he could end up being the first or second pass rusher off the board, with an explosive game that combines speed and physicality."
ESPN's Field Yates lists Green No. 14 on his initialBig Boardof the Top 32 prospects in the class. ESPN's Matt Miller recently released hislistof the Top 50 players in the draft and Green comes in at No. 27. Jordan Reid has Green No. 31 inhisTop 50 prospects in the class.
What he had to say:"I know undersized guys sometimes have trouble setting the edge and things like that, and, man, I'm just out here and I've been proving to myself and other people that I can do things such as setting the edge, and I can do things such as power rushing and things like that," Green said at the Combine.
"It might be a little talk out there about me not being able to do certain things, but when you turn on the film and watch all 700 plays, you'll see sparks and highlights of the way I play."
