(Editor's Note: While the start of the 2025 NFL Draft isn't until late April, it's never too early to profile some of the key participants. The staff of DallasCowboys.com intends to preview the landscape of the draft's top prospects, with an emphasis on possible Cowboys draft picks from the first round to the last. Today's featured player is Ohio State RB TreVeyon Henderson)
Name:TreVeyon Henderson
Position:RB
College:Ohio State
Height/Weight:5-10 / 202
Did You Know?Despite injuries cutting his 2022 season short, Henderson still finished in the top-five career rushing yards (3,761) in school history, joining elite company in Archie Griffin, JK Dobbins, Ezekiel Elliott and Eddie George. In the three seasons Henderson was fully healthy, he rushed for at least 900 yards and double-digit touchdowns each time.
The 2025 running backs class runs deep, and Henderson has moved himself towards the top of it with a strong senior season at Ohio State and a good combine. Most projections have him being drafted in the second round with some having him fall to Dallas at pick 44.
Adding Henderson would give the Cowboys a three-down back that doesn't necessarily have to handle the bulk of the carries on day one with the additions of Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders in free agency. Eventually, Henderson has all the tools you want in a bell cow running back and could be the starter at the position for years to come.
Henderson doesn't have the ideal size for a back that would carry the ball between 20-30 times a game, but his speed, cuts and football IQ make him a difficult player to take off the field. Add in the fact that he is an elite pass protector and has steadily improved as a receiver out of the backfield, and Henderson is the complete package.
Dallas needs a home run hitter at the running back position, and Henderson's 4.43 speed gives him that ability. He recorded 11 career 50+ yard plays from scrimmage in his career as a Buckeye, including a 75-yard catch and run against Texas in the Cotton Bowl that was a back-breaker for the Longhorns and halted all momentum the other way. Being able to completely alter the flow of a game in one play doesn't come often, but Henderson has a knack for doing just that.
In terms of sheer fit, there aren't many running backs in this class that would check every box for the Cowboys like Henderson does. He can run the football, block in pass protection, receive out of the backfield, and run away from everybody in the open field.
Then, you factor in that every one of his teammates and coaches lauds his character and what he brought to the culture at Ohio State. Henderson willingly split carries and playing with Ole Miss transfer running back Quinshon Judkins in the 2025 season after he came into the year as the lead back, and both benefitted from it finishing with 1,000 yard seasons and a national championship.
Simply put, Henderson satisfies all the needs that teams are looking for in a player and a person, and with here still being a need for the Cowboys at running back, Henderson makes a lot of sense.
