NFL team owners, executives, head coaches and other league personnel will meet in Palm Beach, Florida over the next few days for the Annual League Meetings at The Breakers Hotel. It's where all the league business pertaining to the 2025 season will be discussed and voted on.
Here are five things to watch out for:
1. Club proposals, playing rules, bylaws & resolutions
During the league meetings, teams will discuss proposals to change playing rules, bylaws and resolutions, submitted by teams and the NFL's Competition Committee. For any rule change to go into effect for the 2025 season, it needs 75 percent of the ownership groups (24) to vote in favor.
Detroit submitted the following playing rule proposal and two bylaw proposals they would like to adopt:
Other proposals being voted on include prohibiting the 'tush push' play (submitted by Green Bay) and aligning regular-season overtime rules with postseason rules where each team has a chance to possess the ball (submitted by Philadelphia). The full list of all playing rule, bylaw and resolution proposals can be foundhere.
2. Brad Holmes interview
Detroit's general manager is scheduled to meet with local reporters who travel down to Florida to cover the event. It's the first time we'll hear from Holmes since the start of free agency and it's usually a very informative session as he breaks down his signings and explains his approach to free agency.
Holmes went outside the organization to sign some free key agents cornerbackD.J. Reedchief among them but he also spent a lot of resources re-signing a lot of his own players. That's obviously a sign he thought last year's roster was championship-caliber had it not been decimated by injuries. What will he say about his roster construction? We could also get some NFL Draft talk mixed in there too.
3. Breakfast with Dan Campbell
The head coaches hold one-hour breakfast sessions with the media with AFC coaches on Monday and the NFC on Tuesday. It's an opportunity to sit down with Dan Campbell and really do a deep dive into the offseason so far.
We typically discuss each free agent in detail. How things are coming along with a coaching staff that saw a lot of turnover this offseason will also be discussed.
The AFC coaches' breakfast can be informational as well. What are the Lions getting in new offensive coordinator John Morton? That's a good question for Broncos head coach Sean Payton, who hired Morton as his pass game coordinator last year. What are the Lions getting in some of the free-agent signings coming from AFC teams?
4. Rod Wood interview
The business side of football is an important aspect that sometimes gets lost to the on-field product.
The new uniform designs unveiled last offseason were a big storyline this time last year. What's newsworthy this offseason? Those topics of conversation with Lions team president Rod Wood this year could include international markets, scheduling, improvements to the Meijer Performance Center and Ford Field and the team's perspective on some of their rule change proposals.
5. Twentyman in the Huddle podcast
The plan is to have Campbell, Holmes and Wood sit down with me in Florida.
It will be a good recap of the last couple months of the offseason including free agency and some draft preview. We'll get into the business storylines behind the scenes and hopefully have a little fun along the way too.
This is always one of my favorite podcasts to do and I think it's one of the most informative for fans getting a chance to hear from the team president, general manager and head coach.
