How he fits:Booker was a two-year starter at Alabama with terrific size, physical traits and technique. He's got prototypical size, mass and nastiness to step in and be a Day 1 starter in the NFL. He's really good in the run game and that certainly fits Detroit's mentality as an offensive line group upfront.
The Lions returnGraham Glasgow,Netane MutiandChristian Mahoganyat guard but could still look to add competition and depth to the position in free agency or in the draft. Booker was a team captain at Alabama and their most dominant offensive lineman, allowing just a half sack in 13 games played and over 770 snaps this past season.
Key observations:Booker started all 13 games for the Crimson Tide last season, 12 at left guard and one at left tackle, recording a team-high 92 knockdown blocks (7.1 per game) across a team-leading 778 snaps. He allowed just half a sack and graded out at a 92.3 percent for the season.
What they had to say about him:"Booker has ideal size, awareness and consistency. In the pass game, he sets with a wide/firm base and easily absorbs power rushers. He keeps his hands tight and when he locks on, he wins. When he's uncovered, he looks for work and delivers some nasty shots to unsuspecting opponents.
"In the run game, he can move defenders lined up over his nose and he is excellent on combo blocks up to the second level. He takes great angles, and he gathers and walls off linebackers. Sources at Alabama compare his leadership qualities to those of former Tide star Will Anderson Jr. There are some concerns about Booker's athleticism based on his Combine performance, but he's still a perfect fit for a gap-scheme team with a power running game." NFL Media analyst Daniel Jeremiah
How he stacks up:Jeremiah lists Booker as No. 23 on his most recentversionof his Top 50 players in the class. Booker comes in at No. 20 in Dan Brugler of The Athletic'slistof the Top 100 players in the draft.
"He is built like a bull, with the play strength and finishing mentality to match, although his average foot quickness might not be ideal for every scheme. Booker is a plug-and-play guard and should be a longtime pro," Brugler wrote.
NFL.com lead writer Eric Edholm puts Booker at No. 18 on hislistof the 100 Top Players.
"Elite size and intangibles should allow Booker to be a Day 1 starter and run-blocking force at guard, even though his athletic limitations must be factored into the evaluation," Edholm wrote. "The highly pedigreed Alabama product doesn't turn 21 until April."
NFL.com analyst Bucky Brooks has alistof the Top 5 players at every position in the class and Booker comes in at No. 1 among interior offensive linemen.
ESPN's Matt Millerupdatedhis Top 50 prospects this week and Booker came in at No. 25 while ESPN's Jordan Reid has Booker at No. 20 in hisTop 50 prospectsin the class. Field YateslistsBooker as No. 22 on his Big Board of the Top 32 prospects.
What he had to say:"Everybody loves to play football when it's easy but who loves to play football when it's hard? I feel like that's what separated the good guys from the great guys in the game of football," Booker said the Combine.
"Ultimately, I just love the aggressiveness and tenacity of the game of football. It's legal assault out there and I love football because the brand of football I play, I make guys not love football anymore. I do that every down by really just giving them my all and letting them know I'm not going to let up. The thing I love the most about football is taking the love away from other people."
