Logan Webb worked seven strong innings, Heliot Ramos clubbed his third home run, and the visiting San Francisco Giants earned an interleague series victory over the Houston Astros with a 3-1 win on Tuesday.
The Giants secured their fourth consecutive series win over Houston behind Webb, Ramos and Willy Adames, whose two-run double in the third inning gave the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Webb (1-0) faced the minimum through three innings by inducing double-play grounders in the second and third. The right-hander also induced an inning-ending double play in the sixth inning.
Adames spotted Webb a two-run cushion by flipping a sweeper from Astros right-hander Hayden Wesneski (0-1) into left field with one out in the third. Wesneski, acquired from the Chicago Cubs as part of a four-player offseason trade, made his Astros debut. He walked Patrick Bailey and Christian Koss in succession to open the frame before Adames struck out.
Ramos extended the lead to 3-0 with a 364-foot shot to left field leading off the fourth. Wesneski rallied to complete five innings, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks with six strikeouts. His walks to Bailey and Koss, the eighth- and ninth-place hitters, proved costly.
Houston's Jose Altuve opened the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left, his first of the season. That 356-foot line drive sliced the deficit to two runs, but Webb rebounded with haste, retiring the subsequent three batters to conclude the frame.
Webb followed by setting down the Astros in order in the fifth before Altuve rolled into a double play to end the sixth. Isaac Paredes smoked a single to left leading off the seventh, but Webb responded with strikeouts of Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker before Yainer Diaz grounded out to short.
Giants closer Ryan Walker earned his second save with a perfect ninth, getting Christian Walker on a grounder to shortstop for the final out.
The three-game series concludes Wednesday afternoon.
