The Giants.com crew is presented with four statements and must decide whether they are Fact or Fiction.
John Schmeelk: FactHe's the first-team quarterback and the biggest addition on offense. The Giants also added Jameis Winston, his backup, and swing tackle James Hudson. I'm excited to see how quickly Wilson can start connecting with Malik Nabers, especially on his moonballs down the sideline. This is an easy one.
Dan Salomone: FactLet's see what the draft brings, but even so, it's all about No. 3. Since 2018, Eli Manning's final season as a full-time starter, the Giants rank last in yards per pass attempt and 31st in passing touchdowns. While maybe not the same athlete as he was when he won the Super Bowl at MetLife Stadium Wilson brings a ton of production, including 16 touchdowns in 11 starts last season as he was named to his 10th Pro Bowl.
Matt Citak:FactHis ability to throw the deep ball accurately should open things up for the entire offense and could really help take the offensive playmakers' games to another level. Not only that, but Wilson also brings a level of experience and leadership that should help elevate a rather young roster. Maybe my answer changes in a few weeks depending on the draft, but for now, Wilson is the easy answer here.
John Schmeelk: FictionI want to see Paulson Adebo for a few reasons. First, I want to see how well he is moving coming off his broken leg last year. I also want to see how he is used in Shane Bowen's defense. I think Adebo has played his best football as a press man-to-man cornerback, and I'm curious how much, if at all, Bowne incorporates that more into his play-calling. I also want to see Adebo in zone more. He has some splash plays reading the quarterback and making plays on the ball, so I want to see if that shows up more with the Giants.
Dan Salomone: FactBoth general manager Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll lit up when they talked about Holland, whom they liked coming out of college while they were together in Buffalo.
"I just think the world of him," Daboll said at the Annual League Meeting. "When he was coming out, instinctive player, crafty veteran, can play different spots in the back end for you. Good leader."
"We spent a lot time in Buffalo with Jevn Holland," Schoen said. "He would've potentially been in the mix if we didn't take Greg Rousseau. I actually still have a Zoom on my phone I was looking at the other day."
Matt Citak: FictionHolland is one of the defensive players I'm most interested to see, but the top guy has to be Paulson Adebo. The Giants signed Adebo to be the team's No. 1 corner, which makes sense given the fifth-year veteran's ability to find the football. With 10 interceptions and 43 passes defensed in just 52 career games, the 25-year-old just finds a way to get his hands on the ball, something the Giants' secondary was missing last season. With Adebo coming off a broken leg, it will be good to see what he can do on the field this spring. If his videos on social media are any indication, it seems like he should be fully good to go.
John Schmeelk: FactI want to see where he is playing, and if he is at guard, how well he is playing at his new spot. Neal is a humungous human being that cares and works very hard. If he gets an opportunity at guard, I think his size, strength, and length will work well there.
Dan Salomone: FictionSchoen, Daboll, Wilson, and Winston all spoke within a six-day span. Each one referenced second-year tight end Theo Johnson. Keep your eye on him during the spring, when much of the focus is on the passing game.
Matt Citak: FictionWhile Neal's potential move inside will be one of the most talked about storylines of the spring, the player I cannot wait to see on the field is Andrew Thomas. After not missing a snap over the first six games, the franchise left tackle suffered a foot injury in Week 6 that forced him to miss the remainder of the season. GM Joe Schoen told reporters at the combine that Thomas was back in the gym and looking "humongous." Considering Thomas was already listed as 6-foot-5, 315 pounds, I'm curious to see how much bigger he can actually get. And as we've seen over the last few seasons, Thomas serves as the linchpin of the offensive line; a healthy Thomas typically means good things for the rest of the unit.
John Schmeelk: FactIt's time for the sophomore breakout for Nubin. He was great around the line of scrimmage last year, but now playing next to the versatile Jevon Holland, I want to see him get his hands on the football a lot more like he did at Minnesota. Nubin is an excellent zone defender, and when Holland plays closer to the line of scrimmage, I want to see Nubin in that deep safety roll watching the quarterback, taking the ball away and preventing explosive plays.
Dan Salomone: FictionNow wearing his third different number in three seasons, cornerback Deonte Banks will be critical to how the defense performs. Like Nubin with Holland, Banks will be buddied up with Adebo as a veteran guide.
"The other part of that is Adebo and Holland, Tae Banks, Dru Phillips, Nubin, all those guys are under contract," Schoen said in his one-on-one with Giants.com. "They will be with each other for the next three years. Tae, as well, if we do his fifth-year option. So, there's a young core, a nucleus, along with Dexter [Lawrence] being under contract for three more years and Burns for four. You're starting to see the continuity part of it come to fruition. And we're at a point that you draft or sign guys, they can be together for an extended period of time, which I think is important."
Matt Citak: FactI went with fact on this one but with a caveat. I'm putting Nubin and Dru Phillips together as the defensive returnees I'm most interested to see. The two second-year defensive backs showed plenty of promise during their rookie seasons, and now with Adebo and Holland joining the DB room, I expect the two youngsters to take big steps in 2025. The secondary, which struggled as a unit at times last season, now has the opportunity to become one of the team's strengths. If that happens, Nubin and Phillips would both likely play big roles in the unit's growth.
