FRISCO, TexasEight-time Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tyron Smith is expected to retire after 14 seasons in the NFL, 13 of which he spent with the Cowboys where he was a two-time All Pro.
Smith spent the 2024 season with the New York Jets, but is expected to retire as a Cowboy by signing a one-day contract with Dallas on Wednesday, with a press conference scheduled at the Star in Frisco at 2 P.M. CT that'll be live-streamed on DallasCowboys.com and the Cowboys mobile app.
A native of Moreno Valley, California, Smith was the ninth overall pick out of USC in the 2011 NFL Draft and started his career at right tackle for the Cowboys. He only stayed there one season, anchoring the left side of Dallas' line for the next 12 years, earning Pro Bowl honors for seven straight years from 2013-19 and was a two-time AP First-Team All Pro.
During his 13 seasons and 170 games played in Dallas, Smith paved the way for the NFL's leading rusher three times, twice with Ezekiel Elliott and once with DeMarco Murray.
In 2011, Smith was the first offensive lineman that Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones selected in the first round of the NFL Draft since he bought the team in 1989. It paid off.
Injuries were always a factor for Smtih in his playing days, but he was always still one of if not the most dominant offensive lineman on the field when healthy. When the NFL released their All-Decades team for the 2010s, Smith was one of the four offensive tackles chosen alongside Jason Peters, Joe Staley and Joe Thomas.
Smith is the second major presence on the Cowboys' offensive line to retire this offseason, joining Zack Martin who called it a career after 11 years, all with Dallas.
Both are now prime prospects for the Pro Football Hall of Fame in five years, as well as the Cowboys' Ring of Honor.
