Led FBS with 17 sacks last season
Mike Spofford
Packers.com has consulted more than two dozen mock drafts from reputable national outlets and compiled a list of players most frequently mocked as draft selections in the latter portion of the first round (picks 18-28) who could be available when the Packers are on the clock at No. 23 overall.
Between now and draft day, those players will be profiled with thumbnail sketches and videos known as "Prospect Primers."
Today's player is
Mike Green, Edge, Marshall
Height/Weight:6-3, 251
Key stats:Led the FBS with 17 sacks last season and ranked second with 22 tackles for loss. Also forced three fumbles and recorded 15 QB hits in 13 games.
College honors:Named second-team Associated Press All-American and Sun Belt Conference player of the year in 2024, as well as a finalist for the Ted Hendricks Award given to the nation's top DE.
Background/other info:A transformed player who went from a wide receiver recruit to a 215-pound linebacker to one of the best edge rushers in the country. Williamsburg native began his college career at home-state Virginia, played sparingly, took a year off from football, and then transferred to Marshall. Became a full-time starter in 2024 and exploded on the scene with an FBS-leading 17 sacks among 22 TFLs, which ranked second. Racked up 84 tackles in all over 13 games to go with 15 QB hits and a team-leading three forced fumbles. Most likely a better fit for a 3-4 defensive front, depending on how much more weight he can put on 250-pound frame. Wrestling background contributes to power and leverage skills. Some off-field issues/allegations that reportedly led to his departure from Virginia could affect draft stock. Steadily productive, posting three multi-sack games last season and recorded at least one TFL in all but one game. Not coming from a power conference doesn't appear to be a concern, as his game film vs. Ohio State last season impressed.
