Shohei Ohtani and Freddie Freeman hit home runs in a seven-run first inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers held on for an 8-7 victory Wednesday to complete a three-game home sweep over the Colorado Rockies.
Ohtani also had an RBI single in the first inning when the Dodgers sent 12 batters to the plate. But Los Angeles right-hander Bobby Miller struggled in his first start of the season, giving up six runs on eight hits in three innings with seven strikeouts.
Freeman added a double to go along with his homer as Los Angeles improved to 10-2 at home this season. Andy Pages drove in three runs for the Dodgers.
Michael Toglia hit a grand slam and Mickey Moniak followed with his own home run for the Rockies, who saw their losing streak reach six games for the second time this season.
Colorado starter German Marquez (0-3) did not make it out of the first inning, giving up seven runs on six hits and a walk while recording two outs. Marquez's fourth start of the season matched his total from his previous two years following multiple elbow injuries.
In a game that included 13 total runs in the first three innings, the Rockies went on top 1-0 in the first on a double from Kyle Farmer.
The Dodgers started their big first inning with Ohtani and Freeman home runs within the first three batters. Pages added a two-run single, and Austin Barnes delivered a two-run double before Ohtani hit his RBI single for a 7-1 advantage.
The Rockies stormed back in the third with two singles and a walk before Toglia took Miller deep to center field for his second career grand slam. Moniak followed with a home run to left field to cut the Colorado deficit to 7-6.
The Dodgers wedged some breathing room in the fifth when Max Muncy singled off Luis Peralta, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a Pages single.
Ben Casparius (1-0) allowed one run over three innings of relief for Los Angeles, while left-hander Tanner Scott pitched a scoreless ninth inning for his sixth save.
