Dallas Cowboys

While the Cowboys weren't exactly quiet during free agency this spring, there is still plenty of work to do for this team that finished 7-10 in 2024.
Not only did they add some key players in free agency and via trades, but they also re-signed some of the core depth as well.
Still, there are other guys on this team that must take that next step in order for the Cowboys to be successful in 2025.
Today, we'll continue the Next Man Up series with wide receiver Ryan Flournoy.
Name:Ryan Flournoy
Position:Wide Receiver
Experience:2nd Year
Games Played/Starts:11 / 1
Years Left on Contract:3
How Acquired:Drafted 2024 (6th Round, SE Missouri State)
Key Stat:Led all Cowboys WRs in 2024 with a 71.4 catch percentage.
The Past:Getting acclimated into a new system is nothing new for Flournoy although the leap to the NFL was undoubtedly the biggest move of his career. But for someone who went to three colleges, Flournoy has learned the ability to adapt. As a rookie in 2024, he got off to a slower start but gradually got better. In the preseason, he didn't have his best game in the first outing against the Rams but followed it up with a pair of touchdowns in each of the last two games. He carried that into the regular season where Flournoy made the most of his chances. He only caught 10 passes for 101 yards but on 14 targets. His 71.4 catch percentage was the highest among all Cowboys wide receivers.
The Present:As we're just a few days away from the NFL Draft, Flournoy is currently in the middle of the pack among a group of receivers trying to separate themselves. The Cowboys currently have 10 wide receivers on the roster, but only five of them caught 10 passes for Dallas last year. So if Flournoy has any type of advantage over the rest, it's the fact he's been here with the core of these receivers and Dak Prescott. But then again, the coaching staff is different, most of the quarterbacks will be new and let's not forget the Cowboys will likely add a few more receivers to the group this weekend in the draft and post-draft free agency.
The Future:The Cowboys can add as many receivers as they want to between now and the start of the season. But it's hard to fathom that many of them if any will have the physical tools that Flournoy brings to the table. His size and measureables (6-1, 202) makes him unique to the rest of the receivers. But as we all know it's one thing to be big, and another to play big. That's what Flournoy must show this offseason and training camp, that's he can overpower smaller cornerbacks in his route-running and win off the line of scrimmage. Once he gets the ball, Flournoy needs to be a playmaker who is a load to bring down. If he can play with the size he has, Flournoy can be a difference-maker and stand above the rest of the pack.
