Where do the Cowboys stand now after the draft? Is this a team ready to compete for the division title? What still needs to be addressed this offseason?Brett Roberts/Grand Prairie, TX
Nick:Obviously, the Cowboys need some depth at wide receiver. It's been discussed in length and I would imagine that gets addressed over the next couple of weeks. With the OTAs beginning and the start of a veteran minicamp around the corner, it's vital to get whatever free agent or veteran WR that is joining the team, in here sooner than later to learn this offense, the system and the culture.
As for the other question, sure I think the Cowboys can compete. But I know this, the Super Bowl champion is in this division and the games were not even close last year. While Dak didn't play the Eagles in either game, the Cowboys were still defeated 75-13 in the combined games. To win the NFC East, the Cowboys must close the gap in a major way there.
I think they can be good enough to compete with anyone, but there has to be some major steps taken when facing the likes of the Eagles and Lions. And while they nearly swept Washington, it's safe to assume the Commanders will be even better so the Cowboys must find a way to catch up there. And don't sleep on the Giants, who could have the deepest group of D-linemen in the league now. That's not going to be a fun assignment for an offensive line to block.
