The Jets have signed TArmand Membou, their No. 7 overall selection in the 2025 NFL Draft.
Membou was the Jets' first of seven picks and the first draft selection under GM Darren Mougey and HC Aaron Glenn.
"I'm a firm believer that you start it inside out," Glenn said on draft weekend. "So, if we can build our line, just as much as our defensive line, also, that only helps you as a team. It helps your quarterback, it helps your running backs, it helps your passing game, and it just creates an identity within your team that you're trying to make sure that every team, when they watch film, they see that."
A Lee's Summit, MO, native Membou (6-4, 332) played in 35 games at Missouri while appearing in 2,243 snaps. He started 25 games at RT the past two seasons and will compete to start there with the Jets.
According to Pro Football Focus, Membou lined up in 2,072 offensive snaps from 2022-24. Over 1,036 pass-blocking snaps, PFF charged Membou with 3 sacks.
"I'd just say I'm very explosive," Membou said after he was drafted. "I create a lot of good movement in the run game, and I'm very consistent in pass pro. I wouldn't really say nothing for weaknesses right now. I'm just trying to improve my overall game once I get here."
Last December, Membou declared for the draft. Soon thereafter at the NFL Combine, Membou flashed his athleticism while becoming one of four O-linemen ever to surpass a 30-inch vertical (34) and post a sub-5.0 time in the 40-yard dash (4.91) at 315-plus pounds in Indy. The 4.91 was the fastest by any O-lineman at least 6-4, 330 pounds since 2003 and he also recorded a 9-7 broad jump.
"Athletically, he's off the charts," Glenn said of Membou. "He's mean, tough, nasty. He really fits what we're trying to do on offense. It was really a no-brainer. Once he was there for our pick, this was the guy."
The Jets addressed tackle in the first round in the past two drafts with Membou and Penn State T Olu Fashanu (No. 11, 2024). Membou became the first tackle taken by the Jets among the top seven picks since Virginia LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson (No. 4 in 2006).
