A phone call from president of football operations/general manager John Lynch on Day 3 of the 2022 NFL Draft offeredBrock Purdya shot at playing in the league. Three years later, Purdy got another call from the 49ers exec that solidified his place as the San Francisco 49ers franchise quarterback for years to come (through the 2030 season to be exact).

"Last week, we knew that we were at the number and we just had to get a couple things figured out within the language of the contract," Purdy said. "My wife and I were golfing at the Olympic Club withJake Brendeland his wife, and we got a text from my agent saying it's done and then answered John Lynch's FaceTime."

Contract negotiations between Purdy's camp and the 49ers had been ongoing this offseason, and while addressing the media in his press conference post-signing, the fourth-year quarterback was quick to say the process was "drama-free."

It was also fairly efficient. Purdy was able get his deal signed, sealed, and delivered before the start of the team's organized team activities on May 27. Even prior to his deal being fully negotiated, the 49ers QB1 made the decision to report with the majority of the team for Phase 1 of offseason workouts which began on April 22.

"At the end of the day, I didn't want to lose sight of the main goal here, knowing that I'm going to be the quarterback for this team this year," Purdy said. "I have to come in, get better, grow our locker room, and help the new guys. I just wanted to be here from the jump and be the guy in there to continue to lead this place."

He is the second big contract to be finalized by San Francisco this offseason. The organization also extended All-Pro tight endGeorge Kittleat the end of April.

"It was just an open communication from the get-go," Purdy said. "I always had faith that they started with a very respectful first offer and from there, the communication between them and my agent was great."

With negotiations in the rearview mirror, Purdy's full attention is on football.

"Everybody's bought in right now, and we're excited, obviously, to do more team activities and stuff as we move along the offseason. It's hard to explain, but the young guys, the older guys - everybody is bringing it right now. I think it's just so important that we're just around each other a lot doing little different activities and continuing to build chemistry.

"That's the kind of stuff that matters when you get late in the season and things get tough. You go through some tough things as a team. You want to be able to know the guy next to you and what he's about and that he's going to have your back and everything like that. Having the contract stuff done, it's been a huge blessing for the whole team and organization."
