The Philadelphia Eagles report to the NovaCare Complex for the start of 2025 Training Camp, presented by Independence Blue Cross, on Tuesday, July 22. Over the next few weeks, PhiladelphiaEagles.com will get you ready by previewing the top storylines at each position. Today, a look at the wide receiver position, featuring arguably the most dynamic and complementary duo in franchise history in A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.
Before A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, no combination of Eagles wide receivers had each amassed 1,000 yards in a single season. Brown and Smith have done it twice in three seasons together.
A.J. Brown will go down in Eagles history as one of the greatest players acquired in a trade.
In three seasons, Brown has earned All-Pro status three times, set the highest (1,496 yards) and second-highest (1,456 yards) single-season yardage outputs in team history, and won Super Bowl LIX. Since his arrival, Brown leads the league in yards per catch (15.4), posted the third-highest amount of 100-yard performances (17), and ranks fourth in receiving yards.
According to Pro Football Focus, Brown was the highest-graded hitch route runner last season, where his size (6-1, 226 pounds), toughness, and concentration demonstrate why his X handle is @1kalwaysopen_. Brown missed three games early in the season with a hamstring injury and the Eagles lost two of them. Jalen Hurts' passer rating was 17.4 points higher with Brown on the field last season, playoffs included.
DeVonta Smith has been a revelation since he was the team's first-round pick in the 2021 season. The Eagles' all-time leader in postseason receiving yards, Smith is sleek, elusive, and dangerous on crossing routes and deep routes, as evidenced by "The Dagger" in the Super Bowl win over Kansas City. The only knock on Smith after his historic college career at Alabama, where he won the Heisman Trophy, was his size (6-0, 170 pounds). Yet, Smith has produced some of the most awe-inducing circus catches and toe-drag swag in his first four seasons in Philadelphia.
Jahan Dotson was acquired just before the start of the 2024 season, so this marks the first Training Camp in Philadelphia for the former first-round pick out of Penn State. With Brown and Smith getting the bulk of the targets, Dotson (5-11, 184 pounds) shined brightest late in the season. He had a season-best 94 yards on seven catches in the regular-season finale, then scored his first touchdown as an Eagle in the Wild Card win over Green Bay, and put the offense on the doorstep of the first score against Kansas City in the Super Bowl with a 27-yard catch.
Elijah Cooks and Danny Gray were on the practice squad last season. Cooks offers size at 6-4, 215 pounds. He was a rookie free agent signing of the Jaguars in 2023 out of San Jose State. He started his college career at Nevada, where he also played guard for the basketball team as a freshman. He made the Jaguars' roster as a rookie and played in nine games, with more than 100 snaps on offense. Gray, meanwhile, was a former third-round pick of the 49ers, who played in 13 games as a rookie. The 6-0, 200-pound Gray joined the Eagles' practice squad shortly after being waived by the 49ers at the end of the 2024 preseason and was part of the run to Super Bowl LIX.
Ainias Smith and Johnny Wilson were both draft picks who contributed on offense as rookies in 2024. Smith (5-9, 176 pounds) started the season on Injured Reserve and played in seven games after being activated to the roster in late October. He saw the most extensive time on the field in the regular-season finale win over the Giants when he caught his first NFL touchdown pass. Wilson (6-6, 228 pounds) became the tallest receiver drafted in the last decade when the Eagles made him a sixth-round pick out of Florida State. He played 32 percent of the offensive snaps as a rookie over the course of 16 games, hauling in his first touchdown in a road win against the Cowboys.
A former second-round pick of the Panthers in 2021, Terrace Marshall (6-2, 200) joined the Eagles in free agency on a one-year deal. In 2022, Marshall started nine games for the Panthers and posted 490 yards and a touchdown. One of the most prolific receivers in LSU history, Marshall spent last season in Las Vegas.
Wide receiver and return specialist Avery Williams also landed in Philadelphia on a one-year contract. Williams (5-9, 196 pounds) was the NFL's punt return leader in 2022 (16.2 yards per return).
The Eagles signed three receivers following the 2025 NFL Draft: Darius Cooper, Giles Jackson, and Taylor Morin. Cooper (5-11, 210 pounds) was a first-team FCS All-American with 1,450 yards as a senior. Morin (5-11, 185 pounds) finished as Wake Forest's all-time leading receiver with 2,974 yards. Jackson (5-9, 187 pounds) was signed after participating in the Rookie Minicamp. He scored seven touchdowns for the Washington Huskies last season after playing at Michigan.
"Coming into the league, we were taught we're playing for this reason. We're playing for this trophy. And once we got the trophy, it was just like I thought everything would be fulfilled, like the hard work and everything. But no, it's the journey. It's the journey that matters the most and that means the most. Because those are the moments you look back at with your teammates that you're spending time with and going to war, you're suffering together and you're winning together.
"That's the beautiful moments in it. The trophy, we can't take the trophy home. But it's cool that's forever in the history books. But we're going to remember the moments more than the ring." A.J. Brown on what he realized after winning the Super Bowl
