Patrick Wisdom, Jhonny Pereda and Julio Rodriguez clubbed home runs as the Seattle Mariners defeated the visiting New York Mets 8-3 on Tuesday for their eighth consecutive victory.
Logan Gilbert (4-4) allowed three runs on four hits over 5 1/3 innings, with one walk and eight strikeouts, as the American League West-leading Mariners and won a third straight series for the first time this season.
Carson Benge went deep twice for the Mets, who will try to avoid a three-game sweep Wednesday afternoon.
The Mariners took the lead in the second inning. Dominic Canzone grounded a one-out single to right field. Wisdom -- filling in for Josh Naylor, who didn't start because of back spasms he sustained Monday after hitting a tying home run -- followed with a two-run shot just over the out-of-town scoreboard beyond the bullpens in left-center field against New York starter Huascar Brazoban.
The Mets tied it in the third when A.J. Ewing hit a one-out double to right and Benge went deep to right-center an out later.
The Mariners regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning off Jonah Tong (1-1) because of some poor defense by the Mets. With one out, Randy Arozarena reached on second baseman Marcus Semien's two-base throwing error. Luke Raley then hit a liner that went off the glove of first baseman Mark Vientos and down the right field line, the error allowing Arozarena to jog home to make it 3-2.
Seattle tacked on a run in the fourth after Wisdom drew a leadoff walk. Pereda lined a single to center and J.P. Crawford drew a one-out walk to load the bases. Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly to left-center to bring home Wisdom.
In the fifth, Seattle's Cole Young and Canzone singled with one out and, an out later, Pereda launched a three-run blast into the Mets' bullpen to make it 7-2.
Benge led off the sixth with a homer to right-center.
Rodriguez greeted reliever Cionel Perez with a homer to left-center leading off the bottom of the sixth.
Tong was tagged for five runs, four earned, on five hits and two walks in 3 1/3 innings. He struck out four.
