Bo Bichette went 4 for 4 with three RBIs and Freddy Peralta pitched six quality innings as the New York Mets defeated the host Seattle Mariners 7-1 Wednesday afternoon to salvage the finale of the three-game interleague series.
J.P. Crawford went 3-for-4 with a double and homer for the American League West-leading Mariners, who had an eight-game winning streak snapped.
Peralta (4-4), who originally signed with the Mariners as a teenager out of the Dominican Republic, allowed one run on six hits. The veteran right-hander walked two and struck out six.
Mariners starter George Kirby (5-5), a righty who grew up as a Mets fan in Rye, N.Y., gave up five runs (four earned) on nine hits over four innings, with one walk and five strikeouts.
The Mets broke a 1-1 tie with four runs in the fourth. MJ Melendez drew a one-out walk and Luis Torrens and Carson Benge singled to load the bases. Bichette grounded a two-run single to center to put New York ahead. Benge scored on a double steal and Jared Young doubled to right to make it 5-1.
The Mets added a run in the fifth off reliever Eduard Bazardo as A.J. Ewing singled with one out and Melendez followed with a run-scoring double to right.
New York capped the scoring in the eighth as Torrens greeted reliever Alex Hoppe with a double to right, took third on a groundout and scored on Bichette's sacrifice fly to left.
Both teams scored in the first. The Mets took the lead as Bichette lined a one-out single to right, moved to second on a single to left and scored on first baseman Josh Naylor's throwing error as he attempted to start an inning-ending double play.
Crawford led off the bottom of the first with a homer to right-center.
