ESPN's Field Yates releases new two-round mock draft
The countdown is on as we sit exactly three weeks away from the 2025 NFL Draft.
Following the additions of veteran quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, several draft analystshave the Giants steering away from a quarterback with the third overall pick.
ESPN's Field Yates is not one of them.
InYates' latest two-round mock draft, the NFL analyst has the Giants selecting Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders third overall.
"Sanders throws with pristine accuracy and touch -- he passed for 4,134 yards and completed 74% of his throws last season -- but he must improve his urgency under duress," wrote Yates. "With Wilson and Winston sharing the QB room with him, he could learn and keep developing without the pressure of being immediately thrown into the QB1 role."
Sanders completed 69.3 percent of his passes for 3,230 yards, 27 touchdowns and just three interceptions across 11 games as a junior in 2023. He followed that up by completing an impressive 74.0 percent of his passes for 4,134 yards, 37 touchdowns and 10 interceptions this past season.
His 2024 performance led to him being named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in addition to being selected as the recipient of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, given to the nation's top upperclassman quarterback.
Sanders began his collegiate career at Jackson State, where he was named the SWAC Freshman of the Year in 2021 and the SWAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2022 before transferring to Colorado.
After projecting a quarterback in the first round, Yates has the Giants moving down in the second round from No. 34 to No. 38, which nets them a fourth-round pick (No. 132), before selecting Alabama interior offensive lineman Tyler Booker.
"In this scenario, the Giants move down from No. 34, add an extra fourth-rounder in a deep draft and then select a player in Booker who would have been justifiable in the Giants' original slot," Yates wrote. "Booker is among the most powerful players in the class and allowed one sack across 38 career games."
While lining up primarily at left guard while at Alabama, Booker also spent some time at left tackle and right guard during his three seasons in Tuscaloosa.
The 6-foot-5, 321-pound lineman was named first-team All-SEC by the Associated Press each of the last two years, while also being selected as second-team All-American this past season after not allowing a sack across nearly 400 pass block snaps.
Booker finished his collegiate career having allowed a mere two sacks on over 1,000 pass block snaps across his three seasons, according to Pro Football Focus.
