The Chicago Bears on Tuesday signed veteran defensive backKyler Gordonto a three-year extension through 2028.
"We are excited to have Kyler remain a member of the Chicago Bears for years to come," said general manager Ryan Poles. "Kyler will be a big part of our defense, and we look forward to his continued ascension on our team."
"We are fired up to secure Kyler as a mainstay on our defense and a dependable component of our team," said head coach Ben Johnson. "Our staff cannot wait to get to work with Kyler."
Gordon joined the Bears as a second-round selection (39th overall) in the 2022 NFL Draft and appeared in 42 games (34 starts) over his first three seasons with Chicago. Over his first three professional seasons, Gordon has totaled five interceptions and 17 passes defended, along with 1.5 sacks, four quarterback hits, a pair of forced fumbles and nine tackles for loss. Last season, Gordon started 13-of-15 outings, leading a Bears defense that ranked top-10 in the NFL in takeaways, while registering a career-high and team-best three fumble recoveries, a career-best 75 tackles (48 solo), including four tackles for loss.
Gordon is one of only two Bears defenders (Urlacher), and the only defensive back, since the turn of the century to tally multiple tackles for loss and at least five passes defended in each of their first three professional seasons.
A native of Mukilteo, Wash., Gordon prepped collegiately at the University of Washington (2018-21), where he appeared in 33 games for the Huskies. As a senior in 2021, Gordon totaled career-highs in tackles (46), passes defended (nine) and tackles for loss (two), earning First-Team All-Pac-12 Conference honors.
