Knee injury cut short what was shaping up to be a dominant 2024 season

Packers.com has consulted more than two dozen mock drafts from reputable national outlets and compiled a list of players most frequently mocked as draft selections in the latter portion of the first round (picks 18-28) who could be available when the Packers are on the clock at No. 23 overall.

Between now and draft day, those players will be profiled with thumbnail sketches and videos known as "Prospect Primers."

Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State

Height/Weight:6-5, 317

Key stats:Started 19 games at LT at Ohio State over the 2023-24 seasons before a knee injury cut short his '24 campaign and he missed the last 10 games.

College honors:Earned honorable mention All-Big Ten in 2024 despite abbreviated season.

Background/other info:Native of San Diego stayed at home initially for college, redshirting at San Diego State before starting 13 games at RT in 2022. Transferred to Ohio State and became the Buckeyes' starting left tackle, allowing just one sack in 428 pass-blocking snaps in 2023, according to Pro Football Focus. Hadn't allowed a sack in 152 pass-blocking snaps in 2024 prior to the knee injury. Would likely be considered the top O-line prospect in this entire draft if not for the injury, but is still expected to be chosen in the first round. Has the combination of size, strength and athleticism to step in as a Day 1 starter in the NFL as long as everything checks out medically. Game film from 2024 shows he was building on a stellar 2023 and performing in dominant fashion until getting hurt.
