As good as Parsons is, will re-signing him as the top defensive player in the NFL keep the Cowboys from being able to improve the roster? Would trading him for multiple picks along with saving the high cap number actually be a viable option?Michael Feichter/ Akron, OH**
Patrik:As opposed to keeping the generational, record-setting pass rusher who is showing maturation in stepping up to be a leader and defender of your team and locker room against all comers, including if that person is DeMarcus Lawrence; and a multi-time All-Pro who's still 25 years old, one of the fastest to 50 career sacks and infinitely more pressures/disruptions, who headlines a position you currently have depth concerns over even with him on the roster? Stop me when trading away the person I'm describing makes any sense, other than presumably being unwilling to pay a contract you saw coming from a mile away, and one he's earned and will continue earning with his level of competitiveness going forward. Unless another team is willing to sell their soul by way of multiple first-round picks and possibly throwing in a more than capable player, it's not even worth the thought. And, to be honest, even then ... my answer is still a resounding no.
Why? Because good luck hitting on any of those shiny new draft picks in the same intergalactic fashion as Parsons' selection. Maybe you find a Pro Bowler. Maybe you find an All-Pro. But maybe you find a Taco with half the cheese gone and the other have past its expiration date. When you hit a jackpot, you quit while you're ahead, because you find out quickly that the more you roll the dice, the more the House wins.
