It is the last week of OTAs and rain forced today's session, OTA No. 7, inside.
Here's what I saw from the sideline:
* Most of the practice focused on red zone work and the Giants offense was cooking, with Russell Wilson as the head chef. He started practice with four straight touchdown passes, the first to Wan'Dale Robinson in the back right corner of the end zone. Tyrone Tracy caught the next one out of the backfield over the middle in stride. The next was to Darius Slayton in the right corner with the pass going just out of the reach of the cornerback, who was a couple yards underneath Slayton. Theo Johnson caught the fourth one, winning on a slant over the middle. Later in practice, Wilson connected with Johnson again, placing a pass in the perfect spot low where only his tight end could catch it.
* Dane Belton grabbed an interception in red zone drills, but the play was called back by a penalty. Cor'Dale Flott's interception stood when he dropped back in zone coverage and got underneath a pass towards the left sideline.
* Jaxson Dart completed a pass to Eric Gray, who made a leaping catch towards the back of the end zone in the middle of the field. Later in team drills, Dart connected with Juice Wells and Jordan Bly for touchdown catches.
* Jameis Winston completed three straight touchdown passes during the first team period. His first came on a screen pass to Eric Gray. His second came on an excellent play action pass where he booted right and hit Ihmir Smith-Marsette, who could have reached the ball over the pylon for the score. Winston's third completion might have been the best pass of the day, a perfectly placed and timed throw as he hit Montrell Washington on the right sideline. He released the ball before Washington broke out of his route and gave him just enough room to get his feet in-bounds. O'Donnell Fortune knocked a pass away that would have been a potential touchdown after the aforementioned touchdown catch. It was on a nice touch pass near the sideline.
* The defense began to step up in the following period. Abdul Carter and Micah McFadden were in the backfield for what looked like would-be sacks, with the McFadden play taking a potential touchdown pass from Dart to Slayton off the board. Winston threw two more touchdown passes, one of which was to Lil'Jordan Humphrey on a short in-cut over the middle. Trace Ford batted a ball down at the line of scrimmage and Fortune played good coverage to force an incomplete pass.
* In the final team period, Russell Wilson hit Theo Johnson for a third touchdown, but Brian Burns got into the backfield for what might have been a sack. Carter had a pressure later in the period. Winston hit Humphrey for another score. Cornerback TJ Moore played good defense and knocked another potential touchdown away.
* The final team period of practice forced the offense to work their way out of their own end zone, pinned on the goal line. Brian Burns looked like he might have had a sack for a safety. The two highlight plays came on a play action boot where Jameis Winston would have run for a big gain, and then a deep pass and difficult catch by Dalen Cambre for a significant chunk of yards to wrap up practice.
